Joey joined the league in 1983 with the Mailbox team from Worcester. Now 26 years later, he is the player/coach for the Division 1 Alley Gators. In between, Joey has proven to be one of the league's elite players both offensively and defensively. In addition, not only has Joey been a wonderful teammate and mentor, he has proven to be adept at managing as well, having lead the Gators to a magical 2008 season - winning the league title and two tournament titles in New York and Philadelphia.

Hailing from Worcester, Joey has always been a threat in the batters box. He has consistently been a pull hitter, driving hard line drives between third and short. For many years when he was younger he had tremendous power to both left and right center field.

Defensively, Joey has always been tenacious, attacking the ball when put into play. A student of the game, Joey is always well positioned and able to keep runners from taking extra bases.

Perhaps it is the little things that Joey does that makes him arguably the smartest player in the league today. Whether it is taking an extra base on a throw, hitting for average with two strikes, delivering a clutch two-out hit or screening an infielder on a batted ball, Joey is able to turn virtually any scenario into advantage for his team.

A big part of Joey's success has been his own positive personality. Always smiling and upbeat like his Mom, Joey remains a positive influence on his team and teammates. He is there to encourage, cajole, and get the most of his players.

Some of Joe's favorite moments:

  • 1984 - First World Series in Houston with Buddies as a pick up player
  • 1985 - Ramrod winning the League Championship his first time
  • 1986 - Gay Games, Marching into Stadium during opening ceremonies with Team Boston
  • 1992 - Winning the WORLD SERIES Div A in Los Angeles with Fritz
  • 2008 - Winning the League Championship in his first year as a coach

Joe remembers and appreciates the coaches he has had over the years too:

  • Bruce Adams - Mailbox
  • Danny Sullivan - Mailbox
  • Bob Burnham - Ramrod and Fritz
  • Gary Staples - Fritz
  • Jim McNulty - Stallions
  • Ken Carty - Mike's Gym
  • Frank Mickelson - Alley Gators

Given this wonderful body of work - both known for its quantity and quality - Joe was inducted into the BSL Hall of Fame and the NAGAAA Hall of Fame in the same year!
